How-to: Player's Perspective Virtual Kubb

Virtual kubb is fun - and it's even more fun with video. Putting your smartphone on a tripod is a start, but not a perfect solution... We want to chat with our opponents, see how they are inkasting and hitting the kubbs, and stream the action from our field when it's our turn.

So, how about a head cam? Let's try this out. And it's easy to build at home.

Choose from a model below an build your own cardboard head cam! Start a video call on your smartphone with WhatsApp or Skype. Switch from the front camera to the back camera. During your turn, put your smartphone in the holder. Take it out and watch your opponent while they are playing. You can talk with each other at any time - for praise or even some trash talk ;)

Tip: Don't forget to bring a power bank!

Have fun with your DIY head cam! See you on the virtual pitch ;)

Model 1: Corona Style

You've got an empty roll of toilet paper at home, right? (if not, you were definitely not prepared for that crisis... ;). And thats all you need for a first try. Really.

What you need

How-to

  1. Wrap duct tape around the roll of toilet paper for reinforcement
  2. Cut at the open end of the roll, ca. 8mm in size. Use your smartphone as scale.
  3. Cut two slits at the long side of the roll. Attach the snapback cap through the slits.

Model 2: Slider

Ok, for a start, our toilet paper model does the trick. But if you want to master virtual kubb, you'll need some more stability. With our template to print out, you build your own head cam in no time!

What you need

How-to

  1. Print the appropriate template for your smartphone. Cut out the paper template.
  2. Trace the paper template on cardboard with a pencil. Mark the folding lines and trace them with a scale.

  4. Cut two slits for the snapback cap with the cutter. Cut directly through the paper template.
